PUBLIC SAFTEY:
Neighborhood Crime Reports
At 3 AM Tuesday (April 12) morning someone attempted to break into a home off Pederson road just over the county line into Washington county. The home's alarm system went off and police responded. Another neighbor reported a car break in also that night but nothing of value was in the car. Looks like it was a busy night out this way.
Last Call for the Road Safety Survey: Forms Due April 30
SRN encourages all neighbors to participate in our Road Safety Survey. Your observations on where and when traffic problems occur, and opinions on what we could do about them, are very useful and important. You can get the two-page survey form from the SRN website at http://srnpdx.org/road-safety-survey-2011. Or you can pick up a printed (green) copy at Skyline School or Plainview Grocery that can be mailed. Our thanks to everyone who has taken the time to fill out a survey. If you haven't already done so, please take a few minutes to complete the survey and return it by April 30. Thanks!

ENVIRONMENT:
Clean Out Your Barn and Sheds of Unwanted & Outdated Pesticides!
Free of Charge & No Questions Asked!
West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, in cooperation with Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and Clean Harbors Environmental Services, announces a Pesticide Collection Event on Wednesday, May 4, on Sauvie Island. This event is open to all agriculture and farming operations, rural businesses and homeowners in the surrounding area.
Here's what we ask you to do:
1. Pre-register with Clean Harbors, at which time you will find out the exact location of the collection. This is so they can make sure to have the proper disposal packaging on site for your waste.
2. Preregister by calling Alan Ranf, of Clean Harbors, 503/785-0404 or email him at ranf [dot] alan [at] cleanharbors [dot] com. He will send you the registration form which you will fill out and email/fax back to him by Friday, April 29.
3. You may bring
* Old pesticides like DDT, chlordane, aldrin, chlorpyrifos (Dursban), and azinphos-methyl (Guthion);
* Left-over current use pesticides; and
* Empty, triple-rinsed or pressure-washed plastic pesticide containers.
There are no questions asked about the materials, no fines levied or names taken. The goal of the event is to remove old and unwanted pesticides from residents' barns and sheds before they potentially corrode and leak into soil and groundwater.
Similar DEQ-monitored events in Oregon and Washington have been extremely successful and appreciated by home and business owners. For more information, call Scott Gall, Rural Conservationist at West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, 503/238-4775, ext. 105; scott [at] wmswcd [dot] org<scott [at] wmswcd [dot] org (mailto:scott [at] wmswcd [dot] org).

Solarize Northwest deadline extended to May 15th!
The price goes down when more neighbors join in! Neighbors West by Northwest has already recruited many homeowners in Northwest and Southwest Portland for a bulk purchase of solar electric systems for their homes. Now, we want more homeowners to take advantage of this unique opportunity to go solar at a ridiculously low price. The registration deadline for the Solarize Northwest Portland campaign has been extended to May 15, 2011.
Solarize Portland neighborhood projects are designed to simplify the process of going solar and bring cost reductions through volume purchasing. Free workshops make the process easy to understand by covering topics such as the size of system to purchase, budgeting and financing, and how to get started. Our next workshop will be Saturday, May 7th from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM at West Sylvan Middle School. We'll also be scheduling open houses for interested individuals to see an installed solar system.
Sign up by May 15th to receive your free solar site assessment. Sign up is only a phone call or email away, just be ready with your name, phone number, email, and address. You can call or email Alison Wallisch, 503-823-4265 or email alison [at] nwnw [dot] org. You can also sign up on our website now by clicking on the button on this page http://www.solarizenorth-nw.org/sign-up/.
This is your best opportunity to buy a solar system, the prices of incentives are supposed to decrease in 2012!
