Emergency Preparedness Mapping Open House by Neighbors West-Northwest
Greetings,
Just a quick reminder that an Emergency Preparedness Mapping Open House is coming up next Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital’s Wistar Morris Room, 1015 NW 22nd Avenue from 4:30 – 6:30 PM. Reduce the community’s long-term risks post-disaster by mapping local resources and hazards now! Local residents, business owners and employees are invited. An overview of the project will occur at the beginning of the event and half way through – feel free to stop by throughout the event.
Come and share information that will help your community reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property resulting from disasters. Consider topics like communication, transportation, food & water, health & first aid, and utilities. Preview the DRAFT emergency preparedness maps at www.nwnw.org/resources/emergency-preparedness. Are there any resources or hazards missing -- local food banks, community gardens, public boat ramps, post-disaster staging areas or natural gathering places? Can you provide contact information so we can follow up with the coordinating organizations or individuals?
Sharing this and similar information may make the difference in overcoming post-emergency hurdles. In the event of a disaster, residents, employees and business owners may be the first responders in their neighborhoods. When there is extensive damage to infrastructure, help from City and outside agencies may not be available for days or even weeks.
Let me know if you have any questions. Please feel free to post the attached flyer in your apartment complex, lunch room at work, or provide a copy to your neighbors to encourage others to attend. If you cannot attend, please share your feedback via email at angela [at] nwnw [dot] org.
This event is hosted by Neighbors West-Northwest and sponsored by the Portland Office of Emergency Management.
Sincerely,
Angela Southwick

| Subject: | Give your feedback on Metro's growth management decision |
This fall, the Metro Council will decide whether to expand the urban growth boundary and, if so, where.
This decision will not just be about lines on a map. It will affect how our communities develop and thrive, and how we invest in good jobs and safe neighborhoods, protect farms and forestland, and make the most of we have already invested in existing schools, parks, sidewalks, streets and other public structures.
A proposal has been released for public comment. Come learn more about the proposal, ask questions and share your ideas.
Thursday, July 28 5 to 8 p.m.
Hillsboro Civic Center Auditorium 150 E. Main Street
More information about this proposal can be found online at [2]Metro's website.
Links: http://www.oregonmetro.gov/greatplaces
Also, please sign up for Opt In, Metro’s online opinion panel, if you have not already done so. A survey on this fall's decision is available now for Opt In participants. It only takes about five minutes to enroll in Opt In, and the survey itself takes between seven and 10 minutes to complete. The survey will be available until Monday, Aug. 1.

We hope you will share your ideas and views with the Metro Council as it prepares for this important decision this fall.

Looking for a companion for my mother, to sit with her in our McNamee Road home, on a respite or part-time regular basis, daytimes beginning mid August. She is 83 and has Alzheimers.
