A Request From Forest Park Ranger Bob McCoy
As your new Forest Park Ranger I’ve been making the rounds talking to people about their concerns for the park and how we might best address the governance of this large, wonderful park with one ranger. With your help I’m hoping to recruit volunteers willing to commit at least 4 hours per month patrolling the park in groups (groups might walk for an hour or two, or just hang out in a parking lot where we have trouble with break-ins).
Volunteers will be trained to educate park users in a positive, upbeat manner about safety and etiquette. I hope to have enough volunteers to hold an initial training in late spring. Our goal will be to talk to park users about why we have the park rules we have and to keep the Forest Park Ranger aware of anything patrols see during their hikes. To be safe, we’ll leave enforcement to park rangers, not volunteers. Think of the possibilities if we have identifiable groups hiking in the park educating, helping and observing!
